I stood in the Suwannee River this afternoon, trying to reground myself after the tragic, state-sanctioned bear slaughter in Florida this weekend.
What is this shadow we humans must cast, on every other living thing?

I am with you……so many have been slaughtered….in such a short time.
I, too, am with you. I have been so horrified and depressed by the bear hunt. This massacre of innocent animals was not necessary. So many cubs will be left to starve; their lactating mothers were killed. Despite all the protests all over the state, despite numerous letter and e-mails and petitions, we the people had no input into what the government decided to do to these bears. I’m sure the hunters went way over the number, too; how many of them actually reported their kills, after all? So disgusted by the state of Florida, which seems determined to kill off all native flora and fauna.
It is a sad day when we kill innocent animals and profit from their deaths.
I am heartsick about the needless killing.
I am just heartsick about the deaths this terrible hunt caused. One image, in particular, published by Floridians United to Save Our Bears just broke my heart: the one of the mother bear walking along a trail with her 3 cubs, and the caption reads “Today is our last day together. . . always remember to be good bears”. I cry every time I see it. I am so furious with our ignorant officials here in FL – every last bloody one of them, from Rick Scott on down!
I echo the sentiments of the people who have already posted.
